Support Sustainable School Supplies

Posted by admin on August 25, 2022

The end of summer is almost here, which means kids all over town are going back to school soon! I don’t know about you, but nothing breaks the bank every year more than buying school supplies. That’s why I’ve put together my top four tips for saving money on school supplies, and to make things even better, they’re all earth-friendly and sustainable—talk about a win-win.

Review Your Student’s Old Supplies—Does your little learner have a dedicated drawer or stash of unused supplies? Don’t forget to check it before you buy anything! You’d be surprised how much goes unused year after year. The cheapest items are the ones you already bought.

Cover Textbooks With Paper Grocery Bags—Those stretchy colorful elastic textbook covers may look cool, but they can cost you up to $12 per cover. Instead of buying expensive book covers make your own with your child out of a grocery store paper bag. Then get some washable markers and go to town decorating the new cover—just make sure you use non-bleed markers.

Thrift Items Like Clothes & Gym Shoes—Kids grow up fast and that means they also grow out of their clothes fast. That’s why the thrift store is a great place to find gently used school clothes and gym shoes. Who knows, depending on how fast your student grows, you might be donating it back to the thrift store faster than you think!

Buy New Backpacks AFTER School Has Already Started—Okay hear me out, I know your little learner might wanna show off a new backpack on the first day of school, but if you can hold them off for a couple of days the best and cheapest time to buy a backpack is after school has already started. Think of how cheap Halloween candy is on November 1st; it’s the same principle.

Hope these tips help you save a little money while you’re sending your kid, or maybe even yourself, back to school this year.
